Thesis Title: Household Religion in Ancient Egypt: Spaces, Practices and Motivations

Maria Helena Trindade Lopes

About

Household Religion is one of the faces that compose the religious phenomenon in Ancient Egypt, however, it was not until now, subject of an extensive study able to create a concrete and complete image of its different aspects.
Motivated by the idea that only the knowledge of its various components will allow the effective knowledge of religion in this civilization, and also aware that this absence is due to a set of problems and constraints that hinder the achievement of this study, i intend to carry out a research to get an interpretative global overview of the Household Religion in Ancient Egypt.
Based on textual sources but mainly in a wide range of material remains we will try a global characterization of this religious manifestation, looking to, rather than respond to theoretical issues, understand how Household Religion effectively worked  in practice, that is, the gods related to it, the customs and procedures, the characterization of the domestic ritual and also the motivations behind it.
